How to Match your Colour for a Hair Piece

There are many factors that make a hairpiece successful for the client, include base type, hair density and hair cut.

Perhaps one of the most important issue we come across at our Hair Loss clinic in Sydney for mens hair pieces is what colour to choose.

We have all of our hairpieces made to our specifications on two different base density types, then we customise in house to the exact measurements of each client to suit his male pattern baldness, and we carry a full range of colours, including three black shade through to 7 brunette shades, as well as blondes and gingers.

We also are able to add in grey percentages from 5% to 70% for each colour for the salt and pepper look.

But matching a hair piece to a clients hair is quite an art form. Most men have darker hair directly below the crown and above the nape of the neck, then it is often lighter in colour towards the temples. Many guys with thinning hair have hair that is a few shades lighter in the male pattern baldness area, as it is slower growing and is more exposed to the sun that hair in the lower parts of the scalp.

When working out how to match a Replique “glue on hair” system with the biological hair, we also take into consideration the clients eyebrow colour and what colour they have  in their beard or stubble, this way the hair piece can blend with the total range of colours.

Of course, many clients biological hair will change during the life of a hair piece, they may go more grey in the temples, or their hair may lighten over summer. Likewise the hairpiece can fade one or two shades as it ages.

Our best advice is to come to our Sydney clinic for a free consultation to look at the different hair piece colours available and see what matches best, we also offer a colouring service where we can add tones to the piece to it matches.
